Day 10 of the Pere Noel world tour: we are all pretty jetlagged and with only 4 days left, unlikely to shift over. Our idea to spend 3 days in DC to break up the trip and make a gradual time shift was well-meaning but useless. Luke went to bed each night at midnight and slept till 11. Once in France it's been pretty wonky. Most nights, he's been awake from 2 to 5 am, and will then sleep in till 1:30 pm if we let him. He's not very hungry during the day (his body clock's nighttime), so when he wakes up at 2 am, he's ravenous and asking to eat. Dada never handles the time change very well, and this trip is no exception. So, he's usually awake at 2 when Luke wakes up and has been doing night duty. I'm the only one getting decent sleep.
The jetlag did kind of help us out for the French Christmas Eve festivities. The tradition here is to have a huge, long feast on Christmas Eve, interrupted in the middle by a visit from Pere Noel. We began eating at 9:00 pm and finished dessert at 3:00 am! (Pere Noel, of course, arrived at his customary hour of midnight.) We ate: petit bouchons and samosas, smoked salmon, foie gras, chapon, cabris, salad, cheese, and buche de Noel and ice cream. That's 8 courses, plus lots of wine and champagne!
Luke was both enthralled and overwhelmed with his first French Christmas. Pics and stories to come when we're back home. In the meantime, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
